There are various kinds of thinning shears on the market. They are known by several names – chunking, texturizing, blending or finishing.
Almost all thinning shears have one straight blade and one notched (or “toothed”) blade. Shears with fewer and wider teeth remove more hair with each cut than shears having more – and narrower – teeth. The more teeth, the finer the blending.
To this list we must now add the exceptional Double-Blade thinning shear where both blades have teeth. This double thinner is used to remove just the smallest amount of hair to give a unique and beautifully blended look.
Chunking scissors – Usually have 10 – 18 teeth. This type of shear removes more hair and creates larger spaces needed by certain hairstyles. TopEdge stylists believe, however, that a better way to achieve the desired effect is to point cut with a scissor instead. In our experience point cutting is more accurate and easier to control. For this reason, TopEdge does not recommend or sell Chunking shears
Texturizing, or Blending scissors – These versatile shears are used by the stylist more than any other thinning shear. Averaging 23 – 36 teeth, they remove about 30% – 60% of the hair and are used for blending tough, straight hair and feathering the ends. This is a shear every stylist needs in his or her drawer. TopEdge has several models of texturizing thinning shears in its collections.
The Double-Blade Thinning Shear – TopEdge Shears has designed The Double Thinner with 30 teeth on each blade giving you, in our opinion, the finest finishing cut possible. The unique blades fit together precisely to smoothly remove only a small amount of hair without bending or tearing so the hair comes out beautifully blended. Our designers are really high on this shear. We think it fast will become one of your favorite tools. Try it. Like all TopEdge Shears our Classic Double-Blade Thinner comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
